Story

The name rose to prominence in England in the 18th century after the House of Hanover came to the British throne: it was borne by daughters of both George II and George III. Author Henry Fielding popularized it in the title of his 1751 novel Amelia. The aviator Amelia Earhart (1897 to 1937), the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, is one of its best-known bearers.
