Story
He is one of the archangels in Judeo-Christian and Islamic tradition: in the Old Testament he interprets the prophet Daniel's visions, and in the New Testament he announces to Zechariah the birth of John the Baptist and to Mary the birth of Jesus. In Islam, he is the angel who conveyed the Quran to Muhammad. It has been used occasionally in England since the 12th century, but only became common in the English-speaking world at the end of the 20th century; it is now one of the most popular boys' names in several countries, including France.
