Story
In the Old Testament, Levi was the third son of Jacob and Leah and the ancestor of one of the twelve tribes of Israel, the Levites, who formed the priestly class. In the New Testament there is a Levi son of Alphaeus, possibly the same person as the apostle Matthew. As an English Christian name, it came into use after the Protestant Reformation.
