Frequently asked questions
The most common questions about Baby Bee.
How it works
What is Baby Bee?
A light way to choose your baby's name, together. Each of you swipes names on your own phone: right is Yes, left is No, down is Maybe. When you agree on a name, it lands in your shared list. See how it works.
Is it a match only when you both say Yes?
Not only. A full match is when everyone says Yes to the same name. But if someone lands on Maybe, that counts too: we show those near-matches separately (the «maybe this one?»), with each person's vote beside it, so you can talk it over. Only a No stops a name.
Does my partner see my votes?
No. Votes stay secret, nobody sees what the other picked. A name only shows up when there's agreement: if you both say Yes it's a match; if someone lands on Maybe, we show that near-match apart. Individual votes are never revealed.
What is Maybe for?
Not everything is black and white. When someone lands on Maybe, we keep that near-match and show it separately, with each person's vote next to the name, so you can decide calmly.
Can we be more than two?
Yes. You can invite more people to the same baby: grandparents, godparents, older siblings, whoever you want. Each person votes secretly on their own phone. The full match happens when everyone says Yes to the same name, and each person's Maybes show up as near-matches.
Invites
How do I invite my partner?
After you unlock the baby, you send an invite by link or by email. The other person opens it and starts voting on their own phone. No codes to share.
Does the other person need to create an account?
No. The link you send already carries their name, so one tap and they're voting, with no account and no password. If they later want their picks to follow them to another phone, they can sign in with Google or through a magic link, but nothing stops them at the door.
Price
Do we really have to pay?
Swiping names costs nothing. You pay €4,99 once, when you want to invite your partner to vote on the same baby. See pricing.
Is it a subscription?
No. It's a one-time payment per baby. It stays yours forever, no renewals and no hidden costs.
How many people does the payment cover?
Everyone you invite to that baby: your partner, grandparents, godparents, whoever you want. The payment is per baby, not per person.
The names
Which names are on the list?
Every given name allowed in Portugal, from the official IRN list, sorted from the most used to the rarest. In total, 10 887 names: 5716 girl names and 5171 boy names.
Can I browse the names without an account?
You can. The lists of girl names and boy names are free and searchable, no login. Starting a baby of your own is what needs an account. Opening an invite someone sent you needs nothing at all.
How do you sort the names?
By popularity, from real birth records: the most used first, the rare ones after, none hidden. We explain here.
With so many names, will we ever match?
Yes, and fast. The deck isn't a random pile: popular names come first, so you both start in the same small set, and it even nudges names your partner already liked toward you. Most couples match within their first swipes. How the deck works.
