Story
The name reached the Iberian Peninsula in the 12th century through Eleanor of England, who married King Alfonso VIII of Castile. In Portugal, Leonor de Viseu (1458-1525), queen consort to King João II, founded the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and is remembered as one of the most influential figures of the court of her time. The name remains very popular in Portugal and is also borne by the current heir to the Spanish throne, Leonor, Princess of Asturias.
